Platowood produces thermally modified timber from fast-growing, FSC®-certified wood species, offering a durable alternative to untreated softwoods for interior and exterior applications. The modification process uses only heat and water, without the addition of chemical preservatives, to improve the wood’s durability and dimensional stability.

The product range is manufactured from three fast-growing timber species: fraké, poplar and spruce. These species are selected from responsibly managed forests and undergo Platowood’s proprietary thermal modification process at its production facility in the Netherlands. During this treatment, the wood develops a warm brown colour that gradually weathers to a uniform silver-grey when exposed to outdoor conditions.

Thermal modification enhances the natural properties of the timber by reducing its tendency to absorb moisture, resulting in improved dimensional stability and increased resistance to biological degradation. The treated wood achieves durability class 1–2 and is designed for an expected service life of at least 25 years in exterior applications.

Platowood products are available in a wide variety of façade profiles and finishes, allowing them to be specified for different architectural styles. In addition to exterior cladding, the material is suitable for window and door frames, sun-shading systems, acoustic screens and interior wall applications, benefiting from its combination of stability, durability and natural appearance.

Because the modification process relies solely on heat and water, the material avoids the use of chemical preservatives while extending the service life of naturally less durable timber species. This enables fast-growing wood resources to be used in applications traditionally reserved for more durable hardwoods.
